Info: Top 10 Overused Buzzwords in Linked-In Profile

Linkedin has revealed the top 10 overused buzzwords in 2010. It is not surprising that we often find these words on, even our own, resumes.

1. Extensive experience
2. Innovative
3. Motivated
4. Results-oriented
5. Dynamic
6. Proven track record
7. Team player
8. Fast-paced
9. Problem solver
10. Entrepreneurial

These words, according to Linkedin, could appear empty to the potential employers, especially if they are not supported by real evidence. Using more concrete, numbered expressions would have stronger support. For example, instead of saying “I have extensive experience in mixed-signal testing,” I can say “I have more than 15 publications in the field of mixed-signal testing”.

My personal take is, having these buzz words is not that bad, but we should always support it by evidence. For example, if we were to write a recommendation letter for someone, we can write he/she is a team player and support this with some facts. Using only these buzz words without extensive facts could result in a losing battle.
